Prof. Tadeusz Burczyński, director of the IPPT PAN has made an agreement between IPPT PAN and the WAT Military University of Technology – a civil-military technical academic institution located in Warsaw, Poland. The agreement was signed for the period of 10 years by both representatives – prof. Burczyński (IPPT PAN) and prof. Andrzej Dobrowolski – vice-rector for scientific research, WAT. It will include the following activities:

  • joint scientific research, lectures, and conferences,
  • exchange of research personnel,
  • MSc and PhD student exchange,
  • BSc student exchange,
  • exchange of research publications on shared interest topics,
  • creating joint studies programmes,
  • summer school,
  • supervision/joint supervision of dissertations.

The agreement extends the previous cooperation of 2019 between the Institute of Materials Engineering, WAT, represented by prof. Tomasz Czujko, and the Department of Experimental Mechanics, IPPT PAN, represented by prof. Zbigniew L. Kowalewski. The two-year cooperation resulted in joint publications, including 8 scientific papers, 2 conference papers, and the presentation of research results during many international conferences, e.g. during the 15. Conference on Advances in Experimental Mechanics in the United Kingdom. Also, two WAT students attended traineeship at the IPPT PAN, and three more are about to begin in August this year. It is also worth noting here that some of the WAT students of Materials Engineering are now employees of the IPPT PAN Laboratory for Testing of Materials and Structures: dr. Mateusz Kopeć, head of the Laboratory, Izabela Barwińska, and Adam Brodecki. Thus, the collaboration between the IPPT PAN and WAT is multilateral. Currently, we support dr. Stanisław Jóźwiak, prof. of WAT, in his research on the microstructures of protective coatings for nicklel alloys that increase their life span during high-temperature performance, on the fabrication and characterization of TiCoCrFeMn high-entropy alloys by powder metallurgy, or the microstructural analysis of aluminum alloys deformed under cryogenic conditions. We cooperate with Dr. Tomasz Durejko, head of the Department of Advanced Materials and Technology, WAT, on the additive fabrication by Laser Engineered Net Shaping (LENS) technology, and on producing thermal barrier coatings based on FeAl alloys.
